Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, captions or magnification.
Our commitment
Surroundings is committed to making this website usable for everyone. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we review the site as we add pages.
What we have built in
- Text and buttons with strong color contrast, in both the light and dark versions of the site.
- Every link, button and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
- Buttons and links sized for fingers on a phone, at least 44 pixels tall.
- Page headings in order, so a screen reader can move through a page by section.
- Text that grows when you zoom your browser, without breaking the layout.
Where the limits are
Our interactive maps, such as the 55+ community map, the Sacramento Giving Map and the fall events map, are visual. Each one also lists the same places as plain text on the page, so you can use the list instead of the map. Some pages link to other websites, such as Google, county offices and community sites, and we do not control how accessible those are.
Tell us if something is hard to use
If any part of this site is difficult to see, hear, read or navigate, please let us know. Email hello@loveyoursurroundings.co with “Accessibility” in the subject line, or call (916) 549-3131. Tell us the page and what got in the way. We will fix it where we can, and in the meantime we will get you the information another way, by phone, email or in person.
