Corporate relocation to the Sacramento region
How corporate relocation works when you are moving to Sacramento
The short answer: In a corporate relocation, an employer helps an employee move for work. Large employers often hire a relocation management company to coordinate the move, and the employer’s relocation policy decides what is covered. In Sacramento, the employee also needs a local agent and a lender who know the neighborhoods and the market.
Who is involved
- The employee and the household that is moving.
- The employer, usually through HR or a mobility team.
- A relocation management company, if the employer uses one. These companies coordinate services for the employer, which can include connecting the employee with an agent in the new area.
- A home-finding agent in Sacramento, and a lender.
The usual steps
- The employer or relocation company explains the policy: what is covered, what the deadlines are, and whether the employee may choose their own agent.
- The employee starts the home search, often long distance, with video tours and a short trip in person.
- The employee gets a loan pre-approval so the budget is clear before offers.
- If the employee owns a home in California, the sale of that home is planned around the purchase.
- The move, the closing and settling in.
What the policy decides
Every employer’s policy is different. One may offer help selling the old home, another a lump sum, another temporary housing. The policy is a guide, so read yours first and ask your relocation team about anything unclear.
Why the loan matters most
In a move on a deadline, the loan is often what makes or breaks the timeline. Maggie B. Hopkins, our broker, is also a licensed mortgage broker (NMLS #349517), so she lines up your pre-approval and your financing while I work on the search, and we coordinate both with your dates. Approval and terms depend on the lender’s review of you, and we never promise either.
Where I fit
I plan the home search around the person: neighborhoods first, then homes, with video tours before anyone flies in and one or two focused days when they do. Maggie, our broker, lines up the loan.

Questions people ask
Do I have to use the agent my company recommends?
It depends on your employer’s relocation policy. Some employers or relocation companies assign or recommend agents, and some let you request your own. Ask your relocation team before you list a home or make an offer.
What is a relocation management company?
A company that coordinates moves for an employer. It follows the employer’s relocation policy and can connect the employee with service providers, including an agent in the new area.
Can I tour Sacramento homes before I move?
Yes. I tour homes and neighborhoods with you on video, then plan one or two focused days in person when you fly in.
